CRACKS IN THE FCI?S ARMOUR? by Lionel Noik Reposted with permission (originally posted on http://www.dogworld.co.za/)
A long time ago I asked the question whether there were perhaps cracks in the armour, or an awakening in certain quarters of the dog fraternity in South Africa. In terms of recent occurrences it looks as if the word crack should preferably be replaced with the words crevasse, canyon or chasm.
There certainly has been an awakening in dog activities, not only in South Africa but in other parts of the world as well.
The Irish challenged certain Draconian laws that were unacceptable. The (British) Kennel Club followed suit and altered their constitution, and KUSA (Kennel Union of Southern Africa), close on its heels dispensed with offensive articles contained in its constitution.
I have recently had word from extremely reliable sources in the Western world that one of the largest canine organisations is presently addressing issues, which it feels is unacceptable to the interests of dogs worldwide. At this stage I believe that it would be detrimental to the interests of those raising the issues to divulge details in full, save as to say that it affects the manner in which the FCI movement conducts itself.
There most certainly is an awakening amongst influential people who are facing iron-fisted attitudes, addressing these and challenging them at the highest level. In certain cases government bodies are being asked for assistance and in others, where finance is no problem, advocates are being employed to investigate legal issues affecting the interests of dog sport enthusiasts. There are statutes in place worldwide that are being addressed and acted upon where justifiable.
At this stage perhaps a word of caution is appropriate. Should leaders insist in adopting or continuing with policies that are both Draconian and oppressive, the hammer will surely fall. Quite frankly I would not envy one sitting too close to the right shoulder of the FCI management. If I was at present in that unfortunate position I would not be feeling too comfortable.
Who knows what next will occur?

This article is essential reading for anyone who might still be under the delusion that there is anything democratic at all about the Raad van Beheer (Holland), St. Hubertus (Belgium), and the FCI.
Unfortunately, the article is only available in Dutch at present. The rest of the web site of the DUTCH BREEDERS COOPERATION is most enlightening an informative regarding DOG POLITICS in Holland.
