Hi Jenni,

If you are unable to post the complete details to the list would you be able to send them to me privately?? My email address is kiyani@dcsi.net.au and I am always interested in learning more about health problems in our breed.

Thanks

I am still waiting for reply from admins. The list is completely public and dogs checked on the costs of FBSD, so it shouldn't be any problem to publish it in here too.

But I will send you an e-mail anyway in case that it has to stay in the shadows as epilepsy usually does.

Hi!

Jenni as you know we have no problems with epilepsy and if you have permission from authors there is no problem to publish it.

If admin gives the permission, I can put the complete, public list in here with links in the pedigrees and results of their exams.
I thought you ment admin of finish BSD not us.

We can even publish it on BW main site.

Bye, Raven

Links guide you also to the database of Finnish Kennelclub, where are results of hips, elbows and eyes, with pedigrees, blup-indexes, statistics and stuff.

Learning is a long way, and sometimes it hurts. But towards healthier dogs we go. Maybe.

Hi Jenny,

Is there somewhere an English version of this???  I don't have a clue what I am looking at because I cannot understand.

The only way to get this eradicted is:

1.  Honesty
2.  Easy and quick diagnostic tests
3.  Rules and regulations based on the test results (i.e. you cannot mate 2 carriers)

That's english site of the FkC database.

Basically those links are just to show the pedigrees, so everybody can then compare those to eachother. All the other information is hips, elbows, eyes, registration, birthdate and test/trial/showresults and statistics.

For solving this problem, honesty is not enough. Tests are developped, but do we have time to wait? If you compare all of those dogs and their pedigrees, the first one owning a dog without relatives of those epileptic dogs, could yell loudly "YIPPEE!!!!" Anyone?

And about carriers. Who knows what dog is, if you don't try first and the next mating you''ll do, when the first litter is 4 yrs old. Hmmm... that doesn't work either. Without tests there is no way to know.

So what we have as solution in here?

What about reading pedigrees and trying to find that pattern hidden in there? Even if it hits close... But this is where we are now and we should react. Is there a way out or only give up and put epilepsy as a part of breed standard?

Those of you who are breeders or owners of epileptic dogs, please go to this link at the Danish breed club and register your dogs! http://www.belgiskehyrdehunde.dk/epelisi/Dansk.htm

Hi everybody,

I would like to add something about epilepsy. I live in the UK and have a terv bitch that started fitting in 2006 at the age of 4 yrs. they were regular every 2 months nearly to the day, they then become monthly, and then she was put on 2 30mg Epiphen tabs daily, which control perfectly.
I have had constant contact with The Epi Guardian Angels. A site in the Us. they have been very suportive. The breeder was told straight away, and she has not bred with any of the rest of the litter.  If anybody would like the Angels site please Email me.     Brightkozyb@aol.com
