Somebody asked me the following question and I couldn't answer this:
Why do ring dogs work on the right side of their handler instead of the left side like in most other programs I know?
I hope somebody will tell me the answer so that I and my friend can become a little bit wiser

He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.
Because there isn't any rule teling on what side they have to be, so you just choose what suits you best. Since I'm right handed, I always work them on the right side. Most people do but there are dogs that are worked on the left side too.
I always advise to keep them on the left (I am right handed as well) because I am stronger in my right arm and proves to be advantageous when carrying groceries. Also when I walk where there is no side walk, you have to walk on the left side. Having you dog on your left side will keep him away from oncoming traffic.

The tradition/logic of having your dog on the left side is a police/military tradition. Most people are righthanded and need thier right hand to hold thier weapons (dagger/pistol). If you're holding your dog with that hand you can't use it for reaching your weapon.
Horses on the right hase the same origin. Try mounting a horse from the left with a sword dangling from your leftside
