Yes, our boy finally is in good shape again after the torsion end of February. He was allowed to start training again end of March and started competition in April. He did pretty well up to now but the little "s** of a b****" decided to bite the stopped attack 3 times (costs 30 pts...) so he only got 3rd, 3rd and 5th place.... The other exercises were perfect but this ***** stopped attack...
Now he finally worked up to his quality and won the trial.
Fils will only start competition next year. The leg is fine again but since he didn't train for several months, he also lost routine a little bit and decided to follow his brother's example during his first trial and bit (guess what ). Since it would cost me at least 3 or 4 weeks to get him to top level again and the season doesn't last a long time anymore, the risk of not qualifying for the championship was too big, so I decided to wait for the next season. Other (important) reason was that I asked the vet's opinion and he also said it was better to build shape progressively in stead of going full speed right away after this serious injury. So no stress for me and my boy until beginning next year
Just watched the vidio, excellent job. I look forward to seeing more of Gast in the future.
Well, I guess you won't have to wait long because my boy did it again yesterday
He won the trial with an impressing 381 score and 22 points ahead of the second place. Only 7 dogs scored more then 300 points. We were extremely pleased with Gast's performance since it was a difficult trial and, as the judges said in their comment afterwards, a "mid season test" of the dogs.
Gast got maximum scores on obedience and jumping. Maximum scores on object guard with and without muzzle. Grips of 23/25, 23/25 and 24/25 and a stopped attack at a 2 meters distance. With the stopped attack he went so fast that he couldn't stop or turn anymore, so he turned his head and collapsed frontally on the decoy, who went down (I was a little pissed at Jo?o for this ::)because IMO he took too much of a risk). Only exercise that could have been better was the search, retrieve and escort. It didn't take long for Gast to find the decoy, but drivey as he is, he bit him when he found him (-5 points). During the escort he didn't out fast enough during the escapes: only after 2 seconds with the first escape (-2) and after 1 second with the other 2 attempts (-1 each time). He lost 10 points overall on this exercise only so we've got something to train on .
Thumbs up with your boy I love his attitude and his tendency to give Joao a big kiss after he gets the job done .
I just want to ask what makes a 23/25 or a 24/25 in the grips. Is there any measurable criteria? Does the decoy report to the judge or the judge alone has a say in bite grip assessment?
Looking forward to the day when you and Fils step into the ring Thanks and best regards!

Maximum score on a grip is 25 but this hardly ever is given during a trial. Normally a 23 or 24 score is excellent. To get this the grip must be completely full and perfectly strong and deep from the beginning until the end of the exercise. 21 or 22 still is a good score. To get this the grip also has to be full all the time but maybe strength or attitude could be a little better. 19 or 20 means that there is something wrong, but in general the grip still is good. Maybe the dog entered very violently and the grip wasn?t full from the start or maybe there wasn?t enough power. Scores of 18 and less mean there was something clearly wrong: no full grip, rebite, growling or barking, etc?
There always are 2 judges who give their quotation individually. Afterwards they compare their results and usually the dog gets the average. Of course there always is a subjective aspect to this as there are no real objective parameters to judge a grip.

Yes, Gast is a very enthusiastic guy. However he isn?t an easy dog to handle, has a very dominant attitude and is very aggressive towards strangers, he?d go through fire and water for his own family. He is very much alike his daddy A?Tim, but as we have him since he was a pup, the control is easier (he learned to ?follow the regime? right from the start ).
However I don?t have any complaints lately about his daddy either. He just loves his status of ?in the house dog? and he always is by my side. He behaves perfectly and does anything I ask him. Every day I take him swimming and biking to keep up the shape an he just loves it!
Fils is doing great too. Every day he swims about 600m (continuous speed) and when he gets out of the water he gets a workout next to the mountain bike. This means a fast trot on an easy surface or pull the bike (easier for me ) on heavy sandy surface. He's strong as an ox again
Looking at the video it all seems so easy but when you're wit your dog it is a whole other story. It is hard work, Whish i was at that level with my dog
