I am new to this forum but have had Belgian Sheepdogs (Groens) since 1977. I live in the US, in California, a bit south of San Francisco on several acres in the Santa Cruz Mtns. I've been to the Netherlands, Finland and France to breed my females to studs there. My husband travels on business a lot Sad but this also means lots of frequent flyer miles Smiley to use! So I am interested in Belgians all over the world and try and visit kennels in different parts of the world when I can, I have met some wonderful people over the years and it never ceases to amaze me how our love for our Belgians can bring together people from so many different countries.

I do agility and herding as well as conformation. My two boys, ages 15 and 13, keep me very busy when I'm not with the dogs. I have 5 Belgians now living with me, Justin 7 yrs (Greco x Dana), Katie 6 yrs (Rintintin x Dana), Nikki 4 yrs (Dumbarton x Dana), Guppi 1 yr (Joey x Nikki), and Tali 7 months (Rival x Chill).

I have a 15 month old Groenendael boy: Images-Basquelane's Wild de Diablo (Rolin Ridges Victory of Images x Images Majestic Dante)

We live near San Francisco California.
I've owned two other Belgians over the past 18 years. They are both gone now.

We're currently in training for his CGC, that's a basic obedience test here with some interesting aspects. Our big challenge during the test is going to be the part where I walk out of the room.
He's a bit of a mama's boy.

Like most Belgians I've ever known, he loves to work, and is so sharp and responsive and fun to train.
I continue the obedience training add fun activities like a low level agility. Our next activity will be flyball so we can put that ball obsession to good use. We'll also be doing some herding clinics/lessons soon, once the season is over and they can take a beginner. At home he's a complete clown.

Our Groenendael "Chagall" (Sly-Nat du Chemin des Sorcieres) is now two and a half years old, is of Hungarian origina and a marvelous dog. We had three rough-coated Collies before, they were good and intelligent dogs, easy to handle, a pleasure to live with. But to live with a Belgian now is a difference similar the one between driving a Mercedes and a Lamborghini. Chagall is reacting so quickly and instantaneously, that it is tough work to concentrate on him, and to calculate his reactions in time to give him the commands. My wife loves to do agility with him, but he is like a hurricane, extremely fast, but not yet controllable.

In obedience, he is a lot better, but he loves agility.

Here is picture, showing him at 9 months:

And here is a very recent picture:

Best regards,
Marcus

Hello all
My name Beth Jones and I have belgian shephards. I don't have a favorite variety. I have worked both mals and belgian sheepdogs, but I focus most of my effort into the future of the working groenendael. Thru the past 12 years, I been working towards my goal of finding belgian sheepdog/ groenendaels that can succeed in French Ring Sport and other demanding sports. Currently I have three groenendaels training for French Ring Sport. One of these dogs was a replacement for very dear belgian mal I lost last year. It was a huge lost, but my new boy wants to fully replace my lost.

I have been in dogs my whole life. I never knew a world that didn't involve some sort of tug toys, dog kibble, and squeaky balls. My mother introduced me into the competitive world of dogs in 1978. Her breed of choice was Shetland sheepdogs and conformation was her passion. We disagreed on many issues concerning my desires to enter more challenging sports and my desire for a larger breed. I always wanted a big dog, but my mother loved her little fuzzy dogs. In 1987, I went to Texas to show a few Shetland sheepdogs. I was asked to handle a belgian sheepdog bitch. With years of pleading my mother for a large breed dog, I was delighted to have the chance to show a larger dog. After winning three unexpected majors that weekend, I finally had the opportunity to bring home a larger breed of dog. It was our first groenendael. She was a schutzhund trained dog and she started my obsesssion for the breed and working sports. A few years later, my mother suffered from numerous terminate illness. During these years of fighting to keep her alive, my main focus was centered around my mother. After her death, I restarted my intrest in dogs and working sports. Sense then, I have slowly struggled to find the type character and working ablity I want in belgian sheepdogs, malinois, and tervs. After many years of searching and importing, I am happy to have found more than I had hoped. My little heros
I am live in California,USA. I hope to contact other groenendael lovers who are working towards simular goals the future of this breed
