Hi Kendra,

Nice video and your puppy is showing a great attitude towards you and in the bitework!!
Drivey little guy  Wink

I hope you don't mind me giving some comment on the bite training however  Smiley

A few remarks:

  • The leg sleeve is far too large and doesn't allow your pup to take also the leg underneath.  Like this it is impossible for him to learn how to bite deep and pushing in.  I added a link to the kind of sleeve we are using.  On the picture you can see the pup has no other option but to bite full mouth and take also the arm.  This is an arm sleeve (this pup is younger then yours) but afterwards we start to put the arm vertically, to teach the pup to turn his head.  Then we use the leg sleeve.
  • Other thing I'd never do at his age is letting him do longer attacks.  Of course he doesn't mind, but it's bad for the quality of the grip.
We always keep the pup on a short leash and let him pull towards the decoy.  Meanwhile the decoy is moving backwards slowly which gives the pup the feeling he is winning and will build speed afterwards.  Then the sleeve is presented but we keep holding the pup away from it only a few centimeters.  He'll try to grab it and will fully open his mouth.  At this moment we place him on the sleeve and the grip will be completely full.  To do this we use a leash with a wide collar.  I don't like a harness because it's much more difficult then to guide his head towards the sleeve and put him in exactly the right place on the sleeve.
While he is biting you should be close to him (almost on top of him) and encourage him calmly.  Keep the line tense but don't keep pulling.  Release the tension from time to time so he gets the chance to drive deeper.
I wouldn't let go of the sleeve either because this will teach him to pull instead of pushing.
To make him out, call his name and show him a "biting saucage" (don't know the english word Embarrassed) As soon as he outs, run backwards with him and let him bite the saucage.
Last advice: go slowly!  Never go too fast.  The grip has to be perfect before you can go to the stage of longer attacks.

This is the way we do it and I wanted to share this  Wink

Good luck!

This link is better  Wink
You can clearly see how the pup is pushing in.  Even at this stage we don't let go of the sleeve because this would teach him to pull.
