Info on german imports
« on: March 09, 2006, 03:18:49 AM »

If anyone can help...

I met a girl who is importing a German Shepherd from Germany. She wants to breed this dog and wants me to do some training for her. She is very new to this and I am worried for her.

She bought the dog from a broker. (I know first red flag) This dog is supposed to be a 6 year old Sch3 VA rated KKL1; proven brood bitch. Evidently, she sent this guy the full amount without any copies of paperwork. All she has is the buy/seller contract.

The dog was shipped to a separate breeder on the east coast.(This whole deal is a mess and I am still getting details). This breeder says the dog looks older than 6. This guy sent her a picture of the dog he has. The dog looks 8 or 9 to me. It has similar markings to the original pictures but she looks rough. She is supposed to be comming into heat and blowing her coat. If this is the same dog; she seems to have not been cared for properly.

So my question is; what type of paperwork should accompany this dog. How are dogs in Germany identified? By Tatoo? How do we go about confirming the dog delivered is the dog she agreed to purchase?

This girl seems very nice and I am afraid she may have been over anxious and is getting taken advantage of. Any info that can help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Christian

you can take a look at http://www.schaeferhund.de/ for registration of a GSD in Germany, this is the organisation that gives out the pedigrees there in combination with the VDH (I believe www.vdh.de but I'm not sure this is correct)
the pedigree should have a red export stamp,
at this moment I believe they chip the puppies in Germany, but 6 years ago I think they were still giving them a tattoo.
hope this helps you a little bit, otherwise email me privately, I might know a GSD breeder who can help you more......

Thanks Carmen! The dog is supposed to be here next week so we'll see. My friend e-mailed me a new pic witht he dog bathed and brushed out some and she looks a whole lot better. If anything looks or seems out of place I' shoot you an e-mail but I've got a little better feeling now.

Thanks,

Hi Pete,

My grilfriend knows allot about German-Shepperds and the details. To know iff you have the correct dog you must have the Tatoo number, SZ number, name off the dog. And from who did she bought the dog(the last one you must send me this private because my girlfriend knows many people from the SV.)
Hopefully you have enough info.
Let me know.
