M?nchen
« on: March 05, 2006, 12:12:22 PM »

Yentos and I were supposed to go to M?nchen this weekend to get our last CAC.  A friend and I started our journey on Friday so we could show our 3 dogs on Saturday (Yentos and 2 BC).  Unfortunately we didn't make it. Once we were 70 km in Germany, the snow hit us and hard.  We got stranded for 2 hours as the highways disappeared under 40 cm snow.  A bigger problem was the public services, they were on strike so the roads did not get cleaned.  Living in Belgium means that we are not really used to driving in snow.

After 375km (and still 450 km to go of which we were sure that the next 200km were as bad as the ones we were on) we looked for a hotel where we could stay for the night with our dogs and returned home the next day safe and sound.

When we now look at the wheather conditions and road conditions still to come in Germany, we made the right decision.  Although I wanted to be able to put Yentos in the Champions board, it is not worth risking the dogs' lives or our owns.  Some day I will be able to place him there.

Snow snow, Im so sick of it!!!? Ticked off
In G?teborg its not usually this much snow as it is this year. It looks like it will never go away...

Its not fun to drive in snow, not even if you are used to it and I think you made the right decision.

I just found this old post, and was amused about the coincidence: We were stranded on the German highway then as well: From Salzburg to Munich, there are but 180 kilometers, and we departed five hours before the show started. Seven hours later, we were still 70 kilometers away from Munich, we gave up.

This year, however, everything was different, and we did not have any snow at all. Did you attend the Munich show then?

No I didn't.  By then Yentos was already VDH show Ch. so there is no need anymore to drive so far unless I am accomanyong somebody who really need to drive the distance to get points.  It is better to drive together than alone.
