..is something i know is still happening all over the world. I see this every year in my home land. I know of dogs on chains who got em on when they were puppies and taken it off when they died. When you confront this people ofcourse there is no way you could help that dog especially if chain is long enough (according to law in my home land) and that bread and milk are not food for dog.
It brakes my heart for this dogs who never know what life is.. especially compared to some dogs who sleep in owners bed, eat best food and so on.
I can?t even imagine belgian shepherd (dogs that are soo active) on chain and haven?t seen one till this day.
I am not extremist (like PETA) but some things should be banned for ever.
Found this site today and pictures show sad life?s of this dogs. I hope most of them were rescued before it was too late for them. Some pictures are bad so if you can?t watch things like that DON?T! Here is link:
My dog is an escape artist who has destroyed his kennel last week. During the time i'm designing an escapeproof kennel I have attached a steel cable of 14 m between two points and a 3 meter chain which is attached to his collar now he has more room and he is much calmer now. Hasn't tried an escapetrick in over a week, in fact he lies there all day long being calm and relaxed (what a change). I know this isn't the type off thing you're talking about because he is trained 3 times a week and i walk him over 2 hours a day but a chain can be usefull
Johan you are reffering to chain I would put my dogs on no problem. You train your dogs, take them for walks and so on so perfect life for a dog.
Problematic to me is dog putted on chain as puppy taken off when dies. And ofcourse life on 2m chain nailed to the barn or a pole is not too much of a life..

Raven, I know what you talk about. You often see it on the countryside in Scandinavia. Next to our house in Finland there is two huntingdogsdogs (maybe laikas) on chain, maybe 1-2 meters long. They sit a few meters from each other and have their own small sleepinghouses. I have neverever seen them having a walk or taken away from the chains. So sad Suppose only time they are "useful" for the owners is during moosehunt. (Moosehunting is most often done in a few days in the autumn)
Suppose that kind of dogliving was quite common a few decades ago, but it is amazing that still nowdays people are treating dogs like that and it is crazy that people still are able to keep dogs this way without punishement. (Still we have quite strict laws about animals well being...)
Is it realy Johan? Or was it? I can vagely remember when it was on the news that it was no longer allowed. Have to say thoug, i did'nt listen very carefully, i was just happy for all the sorry dogs that were on a chain 24/7 that th?t was over. Why would one want to put his dog on a chain for the first place . But hey, this is coming from someone who keeps his dogs with him 24/7. I work at home so they are with me almost all of the time. My garden is totally surrounded with concrete fence so, i never have to chain or lock a dog up.

Dogs love their friends & bite their enemies- quite unlike most people, who are uncapable of pure love & always have to mix love & hate...
