Hi, i have been surfing today and i am all fustrated, i frequent a few sites, that are more "pet" orientated. some have sport dog stuff on them but the info is not that good. I am a protection sport guy, so if there is anyone doing protection, they have been doing for it the FBI or the CIA or some other agency, but they cannot answer simple questions. so i natuarlly question thier honesty. This site is great, i was wondering if thier any other sites belgian, or protection related with this kind of caliber of trainers on it. and if i see one more "my yorkie-poo won't eat" or "my schnoodle keeps peeing in the crate" threads i am going to throw my computer out the window. I want some real dog training!!!
Well there are several training boards on internet and most of them are pretty much the same. Police and other goverment employes and people working for them actually can't say or write too much. More or less understandable since they can't let public know about their training since probably bad guys are reading too, another problem is that people who read this things can try some stuff at home and just make problems for them selves.
Bitework is becoming more and more a TABU like here in Sweden where even finding a club and a group that will take you in is not a simple thing.
And like always on internet you have "experts" on every corner and god knows how much their advices and ideas really improve your training.
Every internet message board (forum) is more or less containing same kind of people.. those who read but never ever post, lurking in corner's laughing at other people's posts and ofcourse calling in every friend they can so they can laugh together at how stupid people are. Than you have people who just don't want to get into debates about different views of training and will usually write couple posts than take couple comments and take it personaly, leave board and never come back.
I roamed the internet for quite some time in search of different boards and found out that most are the same and even have same members so more or less you are stuck with one big board, different owners.
Try searching in google and other search engines I'm sure you will find at least 20 training boards..

Rather commercial in my opinion if someone has a question the first awnser is buy a video and i have my reservations on the large scale of use off prong and other corrective collars etc.

The worst part about many of these forums is some of the people HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT!!!!? or they are just concerned about selling themselves as trainers or selling puppies. I love teaching and helping people as much as dogs. I enjoy this board because the people here are very knowlegeable, seem to have good intestions, and most of all give sound advise!

I believe the best way to become better at anything is to surround yourself with the best and learn from them. At the same time you have to be open to learning. Healthy debate over a training method or idea is great but unfortunately we often end up argueing.
Soon I am going to try to initiate some serious conversation about some advanced training techniques of bitework. I hope we all join in as we have some serious talent on this board and we all can benifit from each other!!! From what I can tell (at the least)we have a Belgian Ring Champion, a Ring Sport National Champion, and a very experienced KNPV Police Dog trainer. My novice divivision National Championship and Regional Placements pale in comparison, I am humbled by my company here.
If you are going to be in this sport you need tough skin( Not only decoys ) When I started I thought I knew a whole lot more than I did. I got lucky to stumble upon people who were the best in the area in several different disciplines (ring sport and police work) They were also the type of people who would tell be to shut up or jump my shit if I did something stupid!! I don't want to think what would have happened if I fell in with the wrong people!!
What we do carries with it a hugh responsibility. We owe it to the new people to show them the way. We owe it to ourselves to push each other and make ourselves better.

Why??? Afterall it doesn't matter if one is a Champion or not...humility brings about its own rewards and we should all practice it.
The way I see it...the entire 'journey' is a learning phase...When one says they know it all or has nothing more to learn from it...Then I think it's time to get out of it.? ? It's usually our dogs which end up 'humbling us' !

Finally my account was approved so I could see your board. It suffers from same sindrome like other boards "lack of interest of it's members". In other words you have nice number of members but lack of posts.
All in all it is not bad but needs something extra.. don't know what that would be since more or less we have same problems like your board. I would allow guests to read in first place since people usually don't register to board if they don't know what is on it.
It seams that now are times of national (single country) general dog boards.. on them everything from "what do I do with my dog he pisses in house" to "look at my little doggy's new jacket" which is ok since people need info. Training dog forums are more or less just for some people which is ok too.
With time things will improve on your board you just have to keep on working.
