My pup is a malinois and loved to be my me, except going in my back yard, the dog finds something interesting takes it under the tree and lies down to chew on it. if i go to get her, she takes what she has and runs, now obviously i do not want to chase her. i have used food which worked for a bit now she seems to love her stick more. i have also tried just walking away and shutting the door, she does not care, also anywhere else this dog is velcroed to me. so, i what am i doing wrong.
thanks christian, the dog was going outside to go potty and then not caring to come back in and runnig from me. and this dog is like my shadow everywhere else. so the problem is how do i get the dog to comeback and want to be by me in this situation. i have found some solutions, just leaving the pup out side and letting the dog be alone and bored out there. that seems to have helped.
You seem to be pretty good at thinking "outside the box" and coming up with good solutions. Ignoring is a very good training tool. I use it all the time!
Similar suggestion from first question. What ever your dog is interested in: You need to be more fun! Yes, no chasing puppy. That is fun for him/her for sure but bad, bad for training!! If your dog has a stick-- get the ball, or tug toy and make it very exciting. Practice your silliest girl voice and use it If you are more fun thatn the stick- your puppy will come to you. If not, as you found out, ignore pup gets bored and comes looking for you. When that happens, make a big deal about it and gush all over your pup!
Wishing continued success,
Christian
