Welcome to forum. But keep in mind you ran into a forum of BSD (=Belgian Shepherd Dogs) lovers. This is no all breed forum. The advice you will get here is: forget Dobermann: stick to Belgian Shepherds.
Anyhow: good luck in dogsport (with whatever breed).
I voted never worked with doberban before? ! But after chatting with you on the other forum I know you would like to tran schutzhund with him. Why not?
Chat soon again?

You can't really answer a broad question like that.
I myself LOVE Dobermans. I seriously considered getting into working them in dog sports and attempting to breed for that purpose. Unfortunatly in my research They seem to have way too many genetic problems.
As for working in my opinion the Doberman has suffered from what many working breeds have. People started breeding for thge show ring and the work went in the toilet. I have only seen one Doberman that did the work and was strong enough for the street. God, he was a magnificent animal and I would have loved to own him!!!!
I encourage you to work with your dog but have realistic expectations. Search for a good club or trainer. There are alot of people who will work your dog and take your money. It is not fair to make a dog do the work if they are not strong enough for it. I am not saying your dog can't do it, just be objective and realistic of your dogs abilities.
If you are serious about doing bitework, find a breeder who breeds for that purpose and has titles dogs in their breeding program. But beware, when I was looking, I found many dogs that were titled in Shutzhund but were not very strong.
I am sure their are very good Dobermans out there. I would look in Europe. Maybe some breeders on this forum may have some leads. Anyone able to help?

For SCH there sure are dobermanns capable of the work, if you find a breeder that breed for workingability. Sadly, the genepool of workingdobermann seems very small, but a few breeders are still trying to breed good workingdobes. I was/still are a bit intressted in the breed, have a tape of some famous workingdobes in SCH and policework, they looked just as good as any other working breed.
