What do you mean?
Do you think from sit or lay down? The commands sit, lay down and stand up? Everything happening in one place...and the dog must not move from the place you are commanding him?

Hi Johan,

I'm not sure if this can help but I might as well wright it down.
I once saw someone training this on a table. She used food to get the dog from a sit into a stand possition and the table stopped the dog from moving forward. She trainded from sit to stand first and then from lay down to stand. When the dog was preforming well on the table she went to working on the ground in a square formed of beams and finally the dog worked without help. The movements with the food were allways towards the dog so the dog tended to move backwards instead of forward.

Good luck Smiley

I tried it but i'm talking of a dog that climbs trees and when he is bored jumps out of them of about 6 meters high. a table doesn't do the trick

I intruduce all new thing with clicker. My dog soon realized that he gets the reword for not moving. Then you just rice your standards...
But working on a table or something similar is a good idea. I saw that once on a training seminar, intruducing all sit, lay and stay on a platform.

Hi Johan,

Are you sure you have a dog?? Sounds more like a cat if you ask me Grin
I do understand a table will not work with a dog like this one.  Maybe it is possible to start with the dog standing in the kennel instead (one with a roof Wink)
Can you tell us the things you tried allreaddy? Maybe someone out there had the same problem.

 Grin Grin Grin jeanette...

well, I did train stand up with my dog a little different way. First I learned her the command from sitting position, its easier I think. I did touch her on the stomach with a little lifting with my hands same time as I said "stand up". I only had to do that with her a few times and she understood what I ment. The same time she learned not to move forward from the position, she couldent move because I was in her way.

Later on, I started from 1 meter away to tell her stand up from sitting, It took some time to lern that...but when she understood the command she could do it from laying position too. Later on, of course it was no problem with sit, lay down, stand up any time....

A: it isn't a cat but climbs like it
B: I tried

standing beside him and stepping forward giving the order
Food in front of his nose on and of the table
Hand/foot under his belly and lifting it
on a long leash which goes behind him trough a ring to my hand and urging him to stand up
etc

He does it 2 or 3 times and afterwards he looks at me with droopy eyes like he is thinking (what the hell does he want from me)

Greetings

Hi!
This is also one of my problems, but I still work on sit-lay.
Demi is just beginning to get it right. She stands very well othervise. But to get her to stand from another position is hard.

I sometimes uses clicker, not to this yet.
Maja: ecxactly how do you do to clickertrain this?

Johan: I hope you find a solution!

well i started rewarding when he was standing. then i higher the standerds, staying still, staying for longer, moving positions... you dont have to use clicker if you dont wont to, just use food. but u have to wait for the dog to stand on his own. it is helpfull to use hand singnal together (or alone) with word signalč
just recently i introduced from down (but only when i knew he knew the first part).
its nice to work on a platform that your dog could not move forward.
well this method works for me, he can now transform from any position to another.

It's just that she stands from walk or run. But to stand up from sit or lay, is something she doesn't understand!
So, we'll just try something else next time. Sometimes she gets things under a longer break. Like that! Grin  Passive training.
Thank you Maja for you answer!

Johan-

My method for the stand is similar to table method described, but doesn't require a table. The important thing to getting a dog not to move forward on the stand is to make sure they learn a "kick back" stand from the beginning, never to walk forward.

The method described to me by an obedience person is to put the dog's dinner in his food bowl.  Kneel in front of him, and ask him to lay down. Now quickly slide the bowl right at him. Most dogs will pop up into a stand.

How I've modified this (because the food bowl works better for puppies than adults) is to use a clicker and initially a food lure.  I am still in front of the dog, usually downing, and move the lure to the dog's breastbone, which brings their chin very tight and down. If you cover the treat with your hand and keep it right there, the only way they can get their chin closer to the food is to pop their rear up into a stand, at which time you give the treat.

Sometimes the first time the dog really resists getting up. Patience, and the dog's frustration, will eventually win out.  Often in this case the dog may move a little sideways...not a problem.

With each lure repetition, the object becomes clearer. When you start to see the sort of kickback stand you want, you mark (click) the motion. Gradually fade the lure and add the cue (command). When you ask for the stand from the sit, you'll have to take a step back and probably lure again. But now that the dog has muscle memory for the kick back stand, it should come quickly.

What you should end up with is a dog that truly kicks out his rear legs into the stand. My young dog actually bounces a little backwards when he does it. My older dog, unfortunately, also clacks  Smiley
