Malinois owners
« on: October 29, 2004, 09:01:34 PM »

Hello,

Im very happy that we finally have our own belgian forum ?Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Let me quickly introduce myself. Im from Ljubljana (Slovenia) and I have 3 year old malinois named Enrique-in short Rik. I bought him when he was 17 mounths old and he is my first malinos. Whatever I read before about belgians or malinois, nothing could really prepare me to really own one. But now after more than a year of living and working with one, I have to say, I learned a lot and you can imagine I had to learn fast... Wink
First we started with agility. At first he also had some agression issues which we had to solve. This summer we past our first obediance exem (B-BH) and from then on I started more seriusly to train for IPO.
So that was in short. No I would like to know more about you and your dogs...

My name is Kadi, also know as Dantero Kennel, and we have a bunch of Malinois.  And one Terv out of Malinois :-)  I'll list them by age

Rytmo des deux Pottois "Raptor" - he's the old man of the bunch, at 11.5.  He just came to live with us this year, a friend of mine owned him before that.  For a variety of reasons myself and his former owner decided he'd be better off living with me, so I purchased him.  He's a very cool old dog, super sweet personality, loves everyone, and is enjoying his retirement.  He's been "adopted" by my son and sleeps in his bedroom at night.  Raptor was a Ring dog in his younger days and earned his FRIII.

Calice du Dantero "Cali" - at 5.5 years old Cali is the next "oldest" dog in the household, although she doesn't believe she's old yet.  Neither do I.  Cali is my "everything dog".   She's got her FRII and should trial for the FRIII in the spring.  So far she's tried her paw at herding, agility, protection sports, tracking, weight pull and conformation.  It's in the plan to do flyball also, we just have to find a class for it.  Cali's more of the pushy type of personality, if she's being really social with you, you might want to take a look and see what she thinks she's going to get out of it.  Because she has an ulterior motive, I guarantee  Grin

Zara vd Berlex-Hoeve "Zara" - Zara was imported from Belgium at 2 years old by myself and some friends.  After living with them for a year she came to live with us, and my son has also "adopted" her as his own dog.  She's mainly just a pet, although Kelson is teaching her obedience slowly and will eventually do a little flyball, agility and/or weight pull with her.  She was raised as a kennel dog but has made the transition to his bed just fine  Wink  Although she's a good little watch dog, really Zara loves everyone and thinks the world was just made so she can have plenty of friends.

Deja vu du Dantero "JaJa" - JaJa is 3, and Cali's daughter from her first litter.   She's a lot like her mom in her attitude towards strangers, a little less self motivated, but still very much "what's in it for me".  If you have nothing for her you will get a quick hello, if you have food or toy you have a new best friend.  At least until the food or toys run out Smiley  JaJa currently has her SchI and is working on the SchIII.  She'll also be seeing sheep for the first time in a week or two.

Dantero's Red River Rapids "Chaos" - Chaos is Raptor's daughter.  She's the cute little girl in a household of average to large girls.  2 years old, she's currently being handled in French Ring by a friend of mine.  She's her father's daughter, sweet, outgoing, obsessive about carrying things in her mouth.  Usually a log from my wood pile.

Impact du Dantero "Crash" - Crash is my newest pup, 4 months old.  His parents are Zara and Raptor, and hopefully he'll be my next "do it all" dog.  Right now he's getting his foundation training in French Ring, obedience, and tracking.  And he'll be seeing the sheep for the first time in a week or two.

Im Topsy Tervy du Dantero "Topsy" - Topsy is my son's new Tervuren pup, also from Zara and Raptor.  Super neat little dog, rock solid temperament, very intelligent and eager to please.  Who knows what he'll eventually do, right now he's doing some basic foundation stuff for French Ring, obedience and a little agility.  We'll take him to see sheep soon, and then he'll probably just do whatever my son thinks looks like fun.

I have a website at http://members.aol.com/malndobe/index.htm with a lot more info on each dog, pictures, pedigree, etc.

Wow very impressive!!!  Smiley

Im allways thinking of getting another malinois, but Im really scared I could not haddle two dogs. Im mean in terms of training. I train with my dog allmost every day (different discipline). I did own two dogs when I was younger but at that time I was still in school and had more free time.

I have the impression that in states you are more into ring training (any kind) than into IPO traing. Where do you mostly import dogs from?

Best regards,

Smiley  Maja, i have two dogs, Menzo, a Groenendaeler and Harley , a Malinois. The reason i bought Harley was the fact that im alone and have to work for a living (like most of us) Menzo would have been alone most of the day. I  have to say , it needs some getting used to in terms of training, but the dogs are very happy together and they are never alone. When i look outside when they are playing together i know Menzo would have been very bored most of the day if he did'nt have Harley to play with.
Concluding , i recommend you to buy a second dog, i must say Menzo is not a Malinois and not that "heavy" Wink.

Hi Evrybody Cheesy

I?m Mia; living in Finland, breeding Malinois at Kennel Malinuts. Only 2 litters with 13 puppies alltogether, so far.

Two mals and one terv at home at the moment. Terv "Obricon Iki Noel", "Hiski",  was the first belg in our farm- just got 11 yo. After training this hard-head for two years I definitely needed something softer and my first mal, "Nallehukan Oona", "Oona", moved here.
Oona is the mother to my first litter but started having fits after puppies so I had to close her from breeding.

Oona is fully show-lined- so she?s done well in shows with four championtitles. She is now 9 yo. I have competed with her in national workingdogtrials (track and search)and in highest level, she has been working as a guardiandog and is also qualified rescuedog in tracking, searching and ruins. She also competes in highest level on agility.

Another mal, male "Xilly?s Meta-Major", "Manne", I got when he was 3,5 yo- now he is 11. He has retired from guardiandog?s profession and has been competing in highest level in national tracking competition. Manne also is show-lined and has two championshiptitles and two BOB:s from Finnish specialshow. If someone knows malmale Cesar de L?Assa- well, Manne looks JUST like him. Like a ghost from the 40?s...

I?m very happy about this forum; I hope it will bring us all a lot of new friends from all over the world and do it?s job as a communicationchannel between us. This sort of place has had an order for a long time- so thank You who made it true Smiley

Hugs?n kiss?s

Hi, for those who don't know me trough my precense on this formum. I have a 13 month old mal that i train in NVBK belgian ring. I bought him last yaer after a 8 month search for the perfect dog. When i saw him i knew that i wanted that peticular puppy. I didn't knew why but after my father saw him it became clear he is the spiting image of the dog that garded my cradle in fact he isthe grand,grand,grand...son

I'm the 5 generation Belgian shepard owner in my family There have been mal-like dogs in my family even before the work of PR dr Reul ( The earliest trace that i've found goes back to 1870 )

Grin My Name is Marie and I live in Sweden, we have a small Kenel Called Vixax
We breed Malinois, Dutch Shepherds and Shih-Tzu:)
At home we have 6 year old Xenah,Malinois  imported from Belgium to be our "Breedingfemale" She is absolutly adorable:) social with a lot of drive, she started her tracking carieer when she came to us in august and is doing well:)

We also have Kobra(Mallekrafts Alabama) she is soon to be one year old and we own her togeteher wit another kennel, she is being trained in the Swedish Bitework program, Kobra is all you can think of in a malinois:) Strongheaded, courageous and  tons of drive..her mother is scandinavias best policedog (she won the nordic championships for policedogs) its like the KNPV nationals in Den Bosch, the father to Kobra is MR III Kukays Xjules, Kobra wil be our next Breeding female, after her competing carrieer.

Roll Eyes
Then we have Aagje van Het Itterdal, a Dutch shepherd from KNPV-lines imported from Belgium, her mother is NOW a registered Dutch shepherd (RISH) her father is FCI MRIII, IPO III SaR Ringo Van den vastenow. Aagje has had one litter with a registered dog from KNPV-lines (RISH) and now I will compete with her in the Swedish bitewoprk program.
Here we have the bigest problems to find good breeding material...all the good workinglines of DS has no FC? pedigree... you can register in Belgium, but it takes time and effort and you need to have someone that are willing to keep the dog for two year, train and compete with the dog, and then you have to take it to 2 shows to get the pedigree*sighs* Its a huge struggle....

and above that so many other breeders cheat..by using a "KNPV" dog and putting another male on the pedigree....

We laso have 3 Shih-Tzus, just for company, breeding  and dog shows:)

I'm Brigita and from Ontario, Canada.  My kennel is Fontaine d'Or Working Malinois.

I have been involved in dog training for 27 years.  The first half was in National and International Obedience competitions with various breeds.  And the last half was in French ring, Mondioring (briefly), KNPV, and Belgian Ring.  Presently, I am training in IPO and cross-training some exercises in Ring.

I also have a male Malinois in Holland and he is titled in KNPV PH I and training for his Object Guard Cert.  And I also have my old male Jason who is a FR III, and the 2000 NARA Ring III Champion and currently the main stud for my kennel.  His son Qain will be taking over for Jason, once his health clearances are done.  He is an incredible youngster!

I have 6 Malinois.  2 males and 4 females.  The dogs I am currently working and competing in are: Ulla who is 21 mos old and training at IPO III level; Qain, who is 12 mos old and training also at IPO III level; and Kona who is only 5 mos old and also training in IPO.  Our goals are the Canadian National IPO Competition and hopefully for the selection for the FCI IPO III World Ch. and the IPO Belgian Shepherd World Championships.

So we will definitely have a very busy schedule ahead of us, as well as our plans to breed 2 litters next year!

If you like, you can see videos and pics of these dogs and others on my site:   http://www.fd-malinois.com

I look forward to learning and getting to know all of you!  Smiley

Hi,

My name is Bjorn. I started to train with dogs when I was 16 years old. I started with an Tervueren in obedience and later in agility. 3 years later I bought my second tervueren but I put him to sleep when he was 9 month old because he had epilepsy.
Then I bought my 3rd dog he was a Tervueren out off Malinois bloodlines. With the first one i started to train IPO but she wasn't good enough. So that is why i bought the 3rd one. But i wanted more and I bought my first malinois now 6 years ago. But he wasn't good. For example the dog was in tracking very good with a pinch collar he could track a 100 points. But when the pinch collar was off he didn't know what to do and he did had many other failures. I started in 1996 with IPO and the people from the club learned me to become a helper.
I was in 3 years time i became a  A-helper in Holland (these are the helpers that may be helpers on trails).
Now my girlfriend and I have 5 malinois and a Beauceron. 2 malinois are brothers these are the sons from Utamarou des Deux Pottois, 1 is a Klemm vom Roten falken son, 1 is a daughter from Alf vom Nordhang der Eifel, 1 is a son from Rodin du Calvaire aux Acacias for this dog we have surched for little over 1 year. He is now 11 months old
This year it is going to be for us a very bussy year. My girlfriend and I are going to be competitors at 2 or 3 trails. With our female I try to train her ready for BH and IPO 1 and maybe this year IPO2. And in 2 weeks is the helpers day were i allso start. At these 2 days the best 8 A-helpers are pickt out for the FCI-W.CH. in Breda.

Well, I think I have to introduce myself too. My name is Heidi, known in this forum ( and other petforums) as mimmuli. I live in Finland and I have one malinois male, age five years and one terv female, age 4 months.

My Malinois, Poiskottoo Hurrikaani (father Quarl des Deux pottois, mother Sisley des Deux Pottois), among friends known as H?my,  came to me, could I say accidently 3,5 years ago.

My mother had rottweilers in my childhood, and when I grew up and had chance to have my own dog, I decided to buy one. So, I put an annnouncement in a local forum, where I told about me and I'm looking for a dog. H?mys owner called me and next thing I realised that I was going to see H?my.

To be honest, I didn't have a slightest idea, what kind of dog Malinois was. I remember, when I was driving to see H?my first time, I said to myself: "And then shutup Heidi, don't let them know that you don't have a clue of Malinois.

When I got there, I saw a young male dog, with a lots of feet and with big ears. He didn't accept me at all first, but something made me to go there again. I visited there about a month and every time H?my accepted me little bit more. After a month H?my moved to my place and now 3,5 years later it is "mother's little pumpkin"  Grin

As you all can figure out from H?mys father that really he is not so "pumpkin" at all. But we adore each other and he obeyes me nowadays very nicely, that's why he is my "little pumpkin"

H?my is energetic dog and quite sharp. He is also very suspicious to strangers. In his opinion, there should be only his family and friends and all the other could vanish from the world  Grin. He has strong fighting spirit, which replaces his lack in nervestructure. Actually only way you notice his lacks in nervestructure is that he hates slippy floors. He walks in slippy floors, but every now and then he remembers where he is standing on and all of his four legs points in different direction for awhile.  Roll Eyes

We do tracking (Finnish tracking) and we have competed in tracking last summer. Plan is to continue next summer in a upper class. Who knows if we achieve even some championchips.

Before Christmas came a new member to our herd, little female tervueren. I was a little bit nervous how H?my would accept newcomer and I was ready to keep them separate atleast couple of weeks. But it took three days and H?my had accepted little princess. Now little terv is H?my's own princess and he plays with it and is a good big brother to her everyway. He also protects puppy very strongly, which is not very nice, but nowadays I have took control of that thing too.

I could say that BSD's have stolen my heart their own uniq way and when H?my travels to Rainbow bridge someday (not for awhile I hope) I'm sure I'll get new Malinois.

My Terv is Dujoiedevie Fiume, father Cousins Emir's Son ( f Emir du Clan des Toisons d'Or, m Bestseller Costa Rica
) and mother Cousins Fitness Rina (f Pyrytuulen Roger Rabbit, m Pyrytuulen Anemone ). Fiume called as Pipsa seems to be very promising puppy. Time will show how things turn out, but I hope that I get new tracking dog out of Pipsa.

I don't have pictures of Pipsa yet in internet. It is quite difficult to get good picture of it, because it won't stay still so far that I could get pictured it. But I have plenty of pictures of Pipsas tail or ears  Grin

I am also a newbie to the mali world.  I just got my first mali pup named "Stella".  We got her from Kadi at Dantero kennel in So Cal.  Her  parents are Zara and Raptor, and she is a spitfire.  I have had many dogs in the past, but none as smart.  I look forward to training and taking her on all my adventures.

Hello,
My name is Leo Hinojosa, I live and train in Michigan.  We currently have several malinois which we are training in Personal Protection, French Ring, and other sports.

My dog Ranger is from the De Vulcain lines, a Larry De Vulcain Son.  I recently titled him in French Ring Brevet and am working towards his Ring 1.  Last year he was used in the Decoy Selectives in Illinois.  He performed the Ring 3 exercises, including the object guard.

Our other dog Joker is also currently training in Ring, We hope to get a Brevet, Ring 1 this year with him.  He is a fast agile dog, with tons of drive.  We look forward to trialing him this year in other venues as well.

My young dog is named Rambo, he is 10 months old.  Very intense drive, and happy working dog.  I look forward to trialing with him in the future.

Our website addy is www.malinoisdesdomaineduhinojosa.com

I hope we can have some good discussions on bloodlines, health, and other issues in a respectful manner, so that we may learn from each other.
