Where the idea could come from....

In meat production time is very critical -  faster growth, shorter life, less feed used, higher produsction numbers etc. Beacuse of that  hormones and also special antibiotics are used in feed to make animals grow faster. The result is that chicken on our plates don't even have real bones but half cartilages - they didn't have time to form correctly.

I wouldn't feed cheapest meat to my dogs....

I was feeding Koru on 80% free range organic chicken legs for his muscle meat.? The chicken bones were hard and crunchy and the meat was brown, it only goes this colour when they actually get to use their legs. Shocked
I have swapped it around now to 80% red meat and I can see the difference in vitality. Wink
The reason why I don't know, I have plenty of ideas why but I won't waste your time with these.

When I was in Belgium, at a BR club, I was told this too. Coincidentally, at the same time, my male had strangely lost his drive to mate. Of course, I was feeding lots of raw chicken at the time. The gentleman at the club did not give me a reason for why they believed this to be the result of feeding chicken but they were very adamant about it.

When I came back home I switched to a raw mix of beef muscle meat, beef green tripe, beef gullet, and beef trachea and have seen a gradually return of my male's libido. I no longer feed any chicken whatsoever.

It's all very unscientific. I wish some one could explain the reasons why chicken (or maybe any poultry) might cause such a change in a dog.

Same problem with fish, I keep this down to 10% of his diet.? In my case it is not to do with the quality of the meat, just wrong type of meat.?
No this is not very scientific, but I trust my own observations more than man in white coat. Grin

This idea sounds a little silly Idiot2 My male has been eating about 70% raw chicken since he was about 8 weeks old. He is now almost 20 months and has to be one of the hornyest little buggers I have ever seen. As fare as drive I have never had a problem. Ultramal has seen my boy and there is nothing wrong with him. Grin

On a more serious note...This is the first time I've heard anything like this....I've had both my males Tyr and Jason on chicken for well over a year at one point...and I only 'wish' it would have calmed their libido lol....But I really didn't see any difference in feeding chicken vs. beef...I only switched to beef as they seemed to like it better...Jason is a walking hormone even today at 11.? Personally, I've never seen a dog as 'hormonal' as he is...His libido is as 'insane' today as it was 10 years ago.? In fact if a bitch is in season...she or he stays in the house and the other in the kennel...He'd 'kill' himself trying to get to her otherwise...

But it's interesting to read this info...and I'll keep in mind for future reference.

Thanks guys.

My male Mal is nearly 3yrs old and chicken has been the main meat has eaten since I bought him home at 7 weeks old.
His drive for the work has never dropped off and his libido is insane as my bitch just came off heat and drove me nuts the whole time.
