Pup has harder bite on tug than while holding ball?
« on: August 03, 2005, 05:48:46 PM »

Ok, not really KNPV question but sence i intend to try and train this rascal to PH1 here goes;

little one (6months old, mal mix) is chewing and 'twisting' ball (rubber ball) while carrying it. No chewing whatsoever while holding tug or rag. Plastic or metal pipe he holds calmly.

Any sugestions?
Maybe to tie long string to ball and rip it out his mouth when he starts to twist ball?

He does not want to trade toys, and he does not wan't to let go off rag or tug. I should introduce 'out' but don't want chewy apport because of it. So i wait?

Oh yes, this is pretty heavy and hard rubber ball.
Tennis balls don't last long.

What: the hard, the heavy or the rubber part? Smiley

Not an issue anymore. (except for kong, he loves to chew on that damn thing - so he does not get it anymore)
But for the sake of disscussion; what part was it? Material of the toy? Shape of the toy? Weight of the toy? Hardnes of the toy?

Lets see:
I know some dogs have problem holding some materials - he did not have problem holding rubber tube calmly (back of his mouth).
He did hold heavy metal pipe (about same weight as ball) calmly (back of his mouth).
Now it must be shape! Smiley
Anything he can't hold in back of his mouth he will 'twist'. Dropping or eating small objects might be problem down the road if i don't fix that.

So no, hard and heavy rubber was not an answer...
