Is the basket guard taught in BR before the escorts? I had some discussions with some friends yesterday that it would be better to teach the basket guard before teaching the escorts to prevent escorting a dog out of the basket. What is the preferred method of teaching sequence? Basket before the escort or escort prior to the basket work? I wonder if it really makes any difference. This question I think is more appropriate for the malinois crowd since there are not much other varieties playing in BR is there? Thanks for the inputs. Juan
Of course everybody has his own methods, but we initially start with basic bitework on the leg sleeve. As soon as the dog is strong enough to bite the suit, we start with object guard, defence and search/bark/escort.
All these exercises are completely different and no risk of the dog mixing them (if you prepare him properly for each exercise of course). We always give the dog a hint as to which exercise is coming and they understand perfectly.
