Need suggestions for crate rest
« on: July 01, 2005, 11:14:08 PM »

My 3 year old Malinois lacerated her right hind foot on Wednesday evening and surgery yesterday revealed that she had severed the tendon. The tendon has been repaired and she is now on the long road to recovery. Actually, I think that it's going to feel like an eternity! Does anyone have any suggestions for what I can do to help alleviate boredom for her. It's only day one after the surgery and she is already whining in her crate. I do plan on getting her some bones to chew on but the stores are closed today with it being a holiday. Any other suggestions for me?? She is on crate rest for 3 weeks and after that she will start physiotherapy provided there have been no complications. We are hoping that she will be fully recovered in 2 to 3 months but I have been warned that it could take up to 6 months to heal  Sad

Thanks in advance,

Natalie

Natalie,
Sorry to hear the news about your girl Cry.  How is she on potty breaks?  Can you keep her out of the crate if she is just laying around with you, or will she even stay calm enough for that?  I am racking my brain but I can't come up with anything, I will see a vet friend tommorow at trng and will see if she has any suggestions if I hear anything new I will post it.  Hang in there and spoil her rotten until things are better.
Best wishes,
Chuck

Thanks Chuck  Smiley

I have discovered that she is better when allowed to lay on my bed...at least for now anyway.

Not to worry...she will be spoiled rotten!  Grin Grin Grin
