Lost incisor
« on: March 01, 2005, 10:58:12 PM »

Hello!

Just a question!

Does anybody know how it is in shows if the dog lose one incisor tooth?

Our Lolka broke when the half incisor tooth.  :-/ It doesn`t matter on dogshows he also get some CAC CACIB and BOB but now exactly today we controll the teeth and this tooth  become loose so we must take it away. Cry we made a x-ray before. So what will the judge say in a dogshow?
is it also possible to get CAC or CACIB? Huh

thanky for your answers! Grin

Hi Eddy!

I am no expert in shows but as far as I know there should be no problems if they have to remove the tooth.

I guess you will need a document in which veterinarian states that tooth was remowed because it was broken and so on.

Bye, Raven

PS: I am sure Show people will give you better expanation.  Grin

Hi raven!

thank you for this quick answer! I thought also in this way!
My wife goes just now to the doc. and we will ask for a paper!

For me it doesn`t matter how much teeth he will lose but we start shows with a nice succes and we would be a little bit sad if
this should end his "carier"  Grin

thank`s again!

Eddy,

Make sure it is fully documented by the vet.

Whether or not it will be a problem depends on the judge.

There are judges who will accept a statement of the vet and will no make any difficulty but there are judges who will not accept the statement and will treat the dog as if the tooth has never been there.  These people don't trust the statements of the vet because a vet can easily write a false statement according to them.  In this case you will not receive a CAC/CACIB or maybe even an excellent.

Unfortunately it is very difficult to determine to which category a judge belongs.

what is with the judge reports we get before?  Huh
Nobody stand there that he loose one incisor or other teeth?
So it should be clear that it was a accident or not?

Dear Eddy,

They do not count.  A judge is not obligated to read them and can decide to only judge the dog the way he is presented (with a missing tooth).

I also checked with the owner of Amigo (Lolka's father) and she had the same opinion.  There is no way of knowing what the result of a judging will be since each judge can do what he wants or not.

I have shown a bitch who lost a tooth when she broke her jaw.  I have had judges who accepted the vet's statement and I have had judges who didn't accept the vet's statement.  And they are entitled to.

Hello Saskia!

Hmm! It looked like you told me!

So we did everthing what is possible a document from the vet. and a x-ray before !!! he take out the tooth with name tatoonr; chip nr; ect. (like you need to the HD-x-ray).

I also asked a other breeder here in austria. She told me almost the same like you. just she say if there are two dogs in same quality (for the judge) she think he will give the better value to the other dog.  Sad

We also know a judge from SLO and i also asked him for his opinion. his answer : "...think that most of judges not care about this...but is ok that you have vet. doc with you at the shows....wish you beauty days, and big success with your dog...."

So he is not a special judge for belgians but he judge all FCI classes.

Sure i understood that it is possible that you fake a document from a vet. but a x-ray with complet teeth?

My opinion:
Only someone who would also do the same thing think abaut that you will fake a dokument!!!

So we will be see how different the judges are !

kind regards

Eddy and "Co"

Our Arris Tammo Tjamme's End became World Champion in 2003 in Dortmund while missing 2 frontteeth. He lost them in a fight with an other dog. We also went to the vet then and let him make a paper in several languages.

As Arris comes into the showring we tell the at once to the judge what happened. Untill now we never had any problem with this, but I know there is a big chance that a judge can choose a dog with same quality and all teeth above yours. That risk you have to take.

It is after all a show. And the best dog will win, officially there should be standing a dog with all teeth.

 Grin Grin Grin

We come just home from the IHA Graz (cacib show in austria)

the judge (Dr. Ursevic Milivoje - Serb.) don`t care abouth the lost tooth!

here our total succes!  Cool

Waterloo-Star Oksana ("Maya")

Intermedian class:
V1  -  CAC Austria  -  CACIB

Her first CACIB, and with tis titel she get the austrian youth champion!  Cheesy

Now our "poor" boy Bergerac Lolka

open class:
V1  -  CAC Austria  -  CACIB  -  BOB  -  and in the show ring 4`th place in FCI I group !!!

We are toaly happy!

I also talk with a veterinair who is also judge and asked her about her opinion and she also told me like you all, but she belive that (here in austria) judges would not make a trouble about this lost tooth if you bring the doc. and x-ray from your vet.

Again thank you all for your answers.

We was absolut not sure  - but now we are only   ---
[shadow=red,left,300]happy![/shadow]

I have to agree with Saskia on this issue, not all judges will
accept the form from the vet, had a simular problem with my Ginno, he broke one of his front teeth playing with whirling
leaf and then hit a stone under a pile of leaf.

He never got first place after that accident, lots of 2th, 3th and 4th place but only 1th when he was the only compititor in class.

He did win 1 CAC CACIB BOB in Germany buth the judge was the co-owner of Ginno's father and owner of Ginno's grandfather.
