looking for a working Laekinois pup
« on: February 08, 2005, 06:06:21 AM »

Anybody here who has a good suggestion for future combination who could do good to great as working prospect for serious sport but prefer Police work ?

I am challenged to find a good Laekinois and train it for working homes. I do believe they exist (quichote is a good example) but can't find a good prospect myself.
I would love to train one Laekinois as good as possible.

Any suggestions ??

Johan Weckhuizen, has Malinois and Laekeois, he breeds working dogs. (kennel van de Duvetorre).

I know there are a few working Laekenois in Holland. But I dont think there are breeders here just to breed the working dogs. but in any litter there are pups with these capabilities, I am sure of that.
We bred 3 litters ourselves.

Here I agree completely !!

Petra, can you tell us some about your dogs and breedings ??
I would like to know some about the breeding program and the character of the bred Laekinois at Tjamme's End.

Of course for me it's more important to filter out the pup out of the litter with work quality. Something I have an 'eye' for, so I keep my interest in this challenge.

Duvetorre Kennel and Lobo hoeve ( the ones known for breeding 'work' laekinois) I will contact after a while.

Thanks for all information posted and emailed to me. More info is very welcome of course !!

Have you looked at our website of Tjamme's End. If so you could have read, that we test the pups at the age of 7 weeks. We also look at their behaviour, movements, how they are built etc.
We do that as our breedinggroup 'Gebelgd'. so the judgment is rather objective.
we do a lot on socialisation in these first weeks of the pups lifes. It is important how the mother behaves, how she does to strangers, other dogs etc.

Hi Petra,

Has Wim check the pups on working capacity? e.g. prey-drive, bite work etc.? I am sure he can do that.

hi sculpadog,

i have looked for a working lakinos pup in Holland for 1 1/2 year. Finally (for 8 1/2 months ago) I have decided that i would select one out of a nest with kynologic parents. As Petra said, in a nest is the possibilty you can select one wich seems to have working capacidies.

I hope i am lucking and can bring my dog to ipo3 but i think you will always see the differents between kynologic and working line's.

I have selected a pup from a nest of wich i liked the bitch very much, mostly from here looks. ? have studied the bloodlines to. So i know mine bitches ancesters where workingdogs, but that was at leat 3 generations back. The father of mine pup comes two generations back from the famous Quichot.

I know in holland just one bitch with ipo 1, it is donna from the lobohoeve. I know an other one (which works very good), but she is steralised........... If you discover a working bitch in Holland with IPO ( and realy looks like a laekenois), please let me know.

greetings

Hi Sculpadog,

I rather wouldnot sound negative but i have seen these "working"leakenois from "van de Duvetorre" and "van de Lobohoeve". And they don't look like leaken.
You can see that there is malinois bred through.
I think you must surch a bit further. Maybe at a kennel where Quichot has bred and where only Leaken are bred. I hope you find a good one

I agree with Bjorn, look further!

There must be Laekenois with working capabilities. In Scandinavia they do a lot in these things.

I am still searching. I am directed to Nordic regions by a few people, so I will point my nose up north....

Hopefully I will find a nice Laekinois with working bilities and then will have fun to train for title.

((Jessica is looking forward: she thinks Laekinois cute))

Well, I hope you can find a suitable Laekenois `up north`!
So you are heading to Sweden, or Norway then? Or even Finland maybe?

Hello, i think there are two places were you can look.

The D'eroudur kennel, they have does working in Herding, Search & Rescue, IPO, Agility, Terapy dogs and  obdience and soon Mondioring. the adress is http://users.skynet.be/fa485478/

Another place where you can look is at the Kennel Van't Isabellahofke http://www.isabellahofke.nl.tt/ the owner works for the army and he works there with his Laekenois.

Hope i could help

now a days there aren't any pure working lines. There never where. Show and working capacidy goes together. All Belgium kennel dogs decent from dutch lines. You only have to make your choise witch lines you like best, with a lot of garnishment and longer back and "big" heads or the types which have more from the malinois types. In the old dutch lines appeare occaissonelly dogs with working titles KNPV or VH and now a days IPO. I think there are no special working lines, it comes natuarally as is requested in the standard. "defender of his home". Also in the belgium lines occure dogs with working tittles but most of them decent from Max van de Kriekenbos (who decent from dutch lines and malinois)
