I have the problem that I live quite far away without a car from my training so I can't go to training so often.
The development of Warga in defence has really been up and down the last year and often I feel we don't get anywhere. When she was puppy and young she was really promising and everything came naturally.
There could be many explanations for not developing now. Could one thing be that we don't train often enough? Therefore I wonder how often you all train defence? And how often do you tihnk one should at least be training defence so the dog developes at least slowly?
Well i train defence twice a week. I do think this is very important that you do it al least that. Before New Year we had exams on 18th of December so that mounth we trained very hard, mostly 3 times a week sometimes even more. And i have to say it made all the difference with my dog. But we should not forget quality not quantity is important too. And then we had a long brake, for a whole mounth. And my dog was like a big step backwords. In obediance that did not show that much, just he was even more eager to do things. So if you are doing defence for fun that does not matter all that much, but if you are really after passing an exam or improving you would have to train more. We train that in each session we concentrate on mostly one thing, like barking, attack, just good bites, discipline... and to progress you can not leave like weeks in between since a dog is not able to learn anything from that session to be able to upgrade him. And also it really sometimes depend on a dog, Rik works better when training more since it reduces the drive and makes him more collected which results in much better work. Well thats what i think, but will be happy to hear more from all the helpers on the forum...
Thaks Maja for a quick answer! You had a good point in just training one thing on every occasion...maybe we should try that. Now we try to do as many things as possible every time so it gets a bit confusing.
