Trying to put weight on my Malinois
« Reply #15 on: August 17, 2005, 07:29:15 AM »

Can anyone suggest the best food for putting weight on a 2-year old, active Malinois?
I've tried several foods and her stool is still pretty soft and inconsistent.  And her ribs show.
Right now, she's eating Avo chicken and rice and Innova/Avo mixed kibble.

if you dog is eating and being active, i would not be so concerned with her weight. it is better to be to lean than to fat. but the stool is good sign of what's going on.  loose stool is a sign of mal absorbtion. the dog is not asorbing the nutrients in the food. and it is the food not the dog. i can't recommend a food. i think all kibble is garbage. it is what it is, dog food. if i recommend anything, it is reasearching the raw or barf diet. i always suggest trying it for 2 weeks if you are not amazed at your dogs health, teeth, coat, stool, energy level. go back to kibble. innova's evo is about as close you'll come to raw. but again it is baked so alot of nutrients are lost or are unasorbable. i came across raw by having the fustrations you do.
