It requires breed club permission in most countries. The only countries I'm aware of that do not require permission are Canada and the US.

In most cases, those breeders who have asked have received surprising support from their breeding commissions (from those I've spoken to). It's a temporary set back in terms of coat, but can be pretty beneficial in the long run as far as expanding the gene pool.

i fully agree, if for some years ago their was not brought in a malinios in the dutchline's, we now a days wouldnot have any laekenois left!!! Good thinking in Belgium!!! But i like the typical garnishment on the head, thats what makes them special and very caracteristic for a rough haird dog.

I have got a Laekenois imported from Belgium, who has Malinois blood in her veins (a few generations back). She is a dog with a lot of coat and furnishing on the head. Her daughter Nozem (out of a Danish male who has some Malinois blood as well) has got less hair on the face, but her hair structure is more rough than her mother's. I think it is a good thing that we keep mixing dogs with very rich coats with dogs with lesser coat, to get a coat that is somewhere in the middle of the 2 extremities.
What I notice with the Laekenois is that the ones with a lot of coat have softer hair than the ones with lesser coat. And too soft isn't good, according to the standard.

Hello, i think there are two places were you can look.

The D'eroudur kennel, they have does working in Herding, Search & Rescue, IPO, Agility, Terapy dogs and  obdience and soon Mondioring. the adress is http://users.skynet.be/fa485478/

Another place where you can look is at the Kennel Van't Isabellahofke http://www.isabellahofke.nl.tt/ the owner works for the army and he works there with his Laekenois.

Regarding he coat Suzanne is right we should try to look for a natural 6 cm fur lengh of the Laekenois coat. I just do not agree we should use Malinois. We should look for nice looking laeken.

Hope i could help
