Hello all, it's been quite sometime since I posted way back when I didn't know what I was talking about, (still don't) I'm just faking it better now, LOL anyway I'm posting an update on both my Mal's training progress. I got them strictly for protection of me.
We stopped training for a few months during the winter, too cold for me, not them, and we start back in a few weeks doing situational.
I first bought a female, (from prime stock) and within a month I realized she had bonded to my husband more than me, very noticeable too, that was disappointing, and I don't know why since I was the one feeding her and taking her with me in the car, etc... she began to be somewhat submissive with me. Then when I started training her, she took to it great and shined on the field with a decoy. Great big fun game to her but I realized when pressure was put on, that she'd fold. I'd say her play and prey is high but I don't believe she will ever have any fight drive.
ON THE OTHER HAND,...
So almost a year later my breeder/trainer had another litter, and I took the only male. He is now 16 months.
Can you say mama boy? Oh ya, he bonded to me, almost over kill. What a cherry-bomb he is. No disappointments here, except when he goes out the door, to go outside it's obvious he's hoping there's a fight on the other side.
No game to him on the field either, (not that he doesn't have any prey drive) he is very drivey, but he has no interest in any equipment what-so-ever, he just wants to fight. Pour on the pressure and he fights harder and will take any body part. Funny thing is, if the decoy stops or isn't pouring it on hard enough, he loses interest and just walks away, until the decoy bats him in the ass, then he'll turn and fight more, he is so precious.
I have to watch him carefully though, if someone stares at him he goes off fast. I'm sure his issues can be corrected during this year's training, I hope! This is my 73lb. liability.
