Has anyone else have had a problem feeding regular dog food? Both my boys are on raw food, however when I have to switch them over to dry kibble (when they go to a kennel), they develop diarrhea that'll last almost a week. Even feeding hamburger and rice, it takes a good week for them to come back to normal, but as soon as I switch over to the dry kibble again, the diarrhea comes back. I take 2 weeks to switch them over to the kibble and 2 weeks to switch them back. I've tried different types of dry kibble (all high end dog food) but they still get it. Is this normal for the breed? I've had them to the vets, had their feces check for parasites, but it has the vets baffled. Day to day routine is the same, so no stresses that way. I know my best bet is never to go away (not likely to happen with my job) or find a good dog sitter that will come in and look after the boys. Can anyone help me figure this out?
Different kind of food needs different bacteria to be able to digest the food. Some dogs are more sensitive to foodchanges than others, they need more time to develope suitable bacterial balance. It is specialy hard to change so different type of food like raw to kibble. Even for changing types of kibble, usually is suggested to mix them a while, that organism has the chance to get used to different balance of nutrients. One of my three dogs has "gentle" digestivetrackt also and I have to be careful when changing food, I have to do it slowly. She is not a belgian and in her breed is digestive trackt a little bit problematic. My tervueren has had one diarrhea in her life of two years, but her brother has had more problems with that.
