Here in Brazil, some say that tha Groenendael with a black mouth is a better guarding dog. Iīve heard from some breeders that some people prefer puppies with a full blck mouth pigmentation. Although some of this breeders have been breeding groenendals for over 20 years, they canīt assure me if itīs true. For you from much more advanced cynology:
Is this true? (black mouthed-full pigmenttion inside oral cavity- groenendaels better guarding dogs, than non black mothed? Is there any article about it? Iīve seen some other color disussions on this forum. but are they related?
Hello Carlos. I do not see in what the fact that the groenendael has the mouth pigmented in black, want to say that will be a good guarding dog? Can be that I have badly understood the question.
In the really old days they indeed thought that black means strength. So the blacker the stronger but I think that it should be clear that that is not the case.

Sorry about my English, espacially with dog-related-things. When I said Guarding dog, I was trying to express something like that the dog has a high fight/defense drive.
I think there are many myths about dogs. BSDīs are not really a known breed. Many people think that a groenendaels are black coated GSD, black coat GSD X rough collieīs cross breed. And this is the most known BSD variety. 7 kennels breeding them, but only 4 really concerned about breed improvement. Tervuren, 2 breeders that I know of. Few dogs in the country. Many argentinian imports for these varieties. One breeder imports groenendaels from Europe (from bel reeveīs)
The malinois are known mostly by the working dog people. We have more people breeding them, but only for work. Amerian, Canadian, French, Belgian imports. Laekenois, none.
The lack of reading material, breed discussion, change of experience with other owners and experienced breeders...
.. Thatīs what Iīm looking for, here, in the forum.
Sorry posting this here, but I saw a opportunite to try to explain some stupid questions that I ask Here.
