Hi, everyone!
« on: June 25, 2007, 04:54:39 AM »

My name is Leonora. I live in Montreal, Canada, and have two Tervs - Golda, my soon to be 13 year old bitch of Belgian lines, and Gandhi, almost 9, of US-Dutch lines. I saw my very first Terv in Tervuren in the summer of 1973 and swore that I would one one some day. That day came 23 years later.

Golda and Gandhi are Canadian champions, shown and handled by me, and both were top scorers in their C.D. (companion dog) trials with 297,5 and 298 out of a possible 300. Golda also holds a CGC (Canine Good Citizen), and very much enjoyed flyball and agility in her youth, but she truly excelled at being a therapy dog, where her natural empathy towards people very quickly won hearts. As for Gandhi, he's way too rambunctious for therapy, doesn't care enough about balls for flyball, and was too gung-ho for his own good at agility. He would likely have done well in schutzhund or in herding - he loves to round up anything that moves, and he thoroughly enjoys the sound of his own bark. And my, if you could transfer his attitude towards work to the population at large, the world economy would boom! But I don't drive, so it's very difficult to go places since dogs here aren't allowed on trains or buses.

I look forward to getting to know you, and finding out all of the wonderful things everyone is doing with their beloved Belgians.

Hi, and welcome to this forum!
You seem to have 2 great dogs! Please put some pictures from them on the forum if you have the time.
I am from the Netherlands and own 2 Laekenois girls, mother and daughter.
They love to go on long walks though the countryside, in the forest or on the beach and I like taking pictures of them having lots and lots of fun!   Wink

Hi Leonora!

Finally someone from Canada!! Smiley Warm welcome to you and nice to have you here in this forum!  Afro

I have been living in Canada now 3 months with my two groenendael girls and try to get some understanding about the way of life here with dogs. We live close to Barrie in Ontario.

Now is it true that in shows here in Canada all belgian varieties are shown in the same ring mixed?
I am planning to show my girls this year as soon as I get them registered in CKC so I have tried to get as much information about showing a belgian here but info about this I could not find anywhere.
I am also thinking of find out how it is to compete in obedience here with my older dog who has been competeing in it already in Finland and Sweden.
So exiciting to learn how all these familiar things to me in my homeland are done here... kind of a culture shock  Wink
