i have a couple of excellent mals and i have been wanting to get out of the technology business and take on a dog handling career where i can work with dogs every day making a difference but alas ive been looking for a number of years and i am no closer to finding that. im starting to get to the point of wondering if im ever going to be able to fulfil my life dream of being an active professional handler.
unfortunately it seems in this country there is no way to gain professioanl experience unless you join the air force and stand in front of a hangar for years so i am looking overseas to build up my people contacts and ideas of places in the world that are looking for handler recruits that would allow me to go there and rapidly build up a wealth of on the job experience (eg israel)
i will be in europe (holland belgium germany france italy austria) for 3 weeks in feb, i was hoping to make contact with some malinois breeders and have a bit of a chit chat and meet the dogs and just see how you guys do things in europe and if there are any ideas they might have on where i could go or who i could speak to about trying to ge the foot in the door.
Hi, I hope you have luck! You are always welcome to Sweden as well:) There is as many different training methods as there are Kennels(dog people) Try to get impression from as many "sides" ?as possible. I have seen horrible things in Holland, Belgium as well as good things.. E-collar is common, kicking and beating the dog is also common in some clubs, obedience in bitework is many times a "joke" (compared to what I am used to) Butmany people are extremly god at teaching the dogs how to bite:) Thats a positive side:) (The controlside of bitework is worse, many are using e-collars instead of the brain) Thera are definately exeptions and not all people train like that... Just make sure you get to see it all and dont get stuck in "one way" of thinking:) Good Luck Marie

Try to contact Bjorn. He is one of the best ( if not the best) IPO decoy in holland.
He and his friend Ingrid are real mali data-bases.
They can help you out some more.
You can also come by so you can see some off my breeding and show you some KNPV, Belgian or mondioring.
grtz.
JVG
