I am picking my first belgian shepherd pup (Groenendael, Bitch) on thursday, and i am very excited!. I have a new crate ready, plently of teething toys, and a good few days off work
I first met the breed, 1.5 years ago though a friend who bred these wonderful dogs, and i was amazed how smart and affectionate these dogs were.
I have owned Jack Russell's, and also Border Collies, but now im ready for a new challenge. I have read page after page of information reguarding belgies, and i feel i can no longer learn from just reading, i need to experience the Joys/Trials and tribulations for myself .
He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.
Ive been living with my belgian for just over 1 week now, and you were right 'little devil' describes her perfectly. She is currently just over 11 weeks old, and she loves to bite things, and i mean really loves to bite! She has more drive then a nuclear reactor.
She's is extremely good when she sleeps in the crate at night, she does'nt wake up for a solid 7 hours. She is also great when i take her outside - she never moves more then 10ft away from me, and that is awesome!
She is also very smart, i have taught her Sit,Down, stay and crawl so far.
Toilet training is going 50/50 - she does'nt poo inside the house, but still working on the peeing
I am extremely happy so far, and the only thing which i dont like is the amount of biting, she does it playfully, but her teeth are like little razor blades. So i will use the 'distraction' advice off the forum, and see how that goes. Or if anyone else has any advice's it's appreciated.
